‘Complete breakdown of governance’

SHILLONG, Nov 4: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has called upon legislators of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) to act “with conscience” and bring down what it described as a government that has “completely failed the people.”
VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh said the state under the NPP-led administration had turned into “a land of mysteries” where corruption, lawlessness, and unaccountability define governance. “The VPP calls upon the MDA MLAs who still have any iota of conscience left to work for the welfare of society — to pull down this government and let the people of the state choose a new one,” Myrboh stated, asserting that Meghalaya “urgently needs to replace this government.”
He alleged that under the present regime, the unexplained disappearance of coal had become “the classic case of jungle raj, deep-rooted corruption, and lack of accountability.”
Myrboh questioned how a government with full control of state machinery could fail to prevent the “loot of its own resources.”
“One can easily connect the dots between the expansion of the NPP and the scale of corruption in Meghalaya. In the history of the state, there has never been a party as corrupt as the NPP, and no party in the future will surpass it,” he said.
The VPP leader also accused the government of failing to ensure citizens’ safety, maintain peace along interstate borders, and curb rising illegal activities.
“The coal disappearance mystery is only one among several problems created under this government,” he added, describing the situation as a “complete collapse of governance.”
