Queensland, Nov 6: India’s all-rounder Axar Patel starred once again with both bat and ball as India registered a commanding 48-run win over Australia in the fourth T20I at Carrara on Thursday. The left-arm spinner credited his batting position at No. 7 for allowing him to assess the tricky wicket and adjust his approach accordingly.
Reflecting on his performance, Patel said the opportunity to bat lower down the order helped him read the conditions better.
“Batting at No. 7 gave me a chance to understand the wicket.
The surface had unexpected bounce and was a bit slower, so I focused on holding my position and timing the ball,” he explained. The Gujarat all-rounder added that his approach remains flexible depending on the team’s needs. “I don’t really have a preferred batting position. I just think about what the team needs at that moment.
Whether it’s No. 6 or 7, I go out and try to make an impact,” Patel said.Discussing his bowling strategy, Patel revealed his plan was to keep things simple on a surface that demanded precision.
“When batters try to attack, I stick to a wicket-to-wicket line. Good length deliveries—around five to six metres—work best on such pitches. Occasionally, I throw in a fuller one to keep them guessing,” he added. (Agencies)
