Shillong, Nov 6: The much-anticipated 1st MLA Trophy Deuce Ball Tournament began on a high note at the Sanmer Cricket Ground on Thursday, marking a historic moment for cricket enthusiasts in the region. Organised by SSS & CC and Sanmer Cricket Team, the event opened with an energetic ceremony that set a vibrant tone for the matches ahead.On the opening day, two matches were played on Thursday- Nongpdeng CC vs IQRA CC and Shillong Cricket Academy VS Mawsyiem CC
On Friday – there are two matches – Meghalaya Media United vs Momentum at 9.00am, and Shibakha vs Blaze Brigade at 12.00 pm.
This is the first-ever Deuce Ball tournament to be held in Sanmer, featuring 25 teams from cricket clubs across Shillong and the East Khasi Hills District under the Shillong Cricket Association (SCA).
The competition aims to promote the fast-growing Deuce Ball format while providing a platform for emerging cricketers to showcase their talent.Among the participating teams are Meghalaya Media United SC, Shillong Cricket Academy, WASOSI SCA, Nongpdeng CC, United Brothers CC, Mawsyiem CC, Blaze Brigade, Sohiong CC (Super Kings), Lagaan 2.0, Mawklot CC, Royal Challengers CC, and Turshaphrang CC, alongside several other local favourites. The tournament also marks a proud milestone for the Sanmer Cricket Academy, which successfully brought its long-cherished vision of hosting a Deuce Ball championship to life in under two months — a feat made possible through the dedication of its members and the support of the local community. Beyond the thrill of competition, the MLA Trophy Deuce Ball Tournament is being seen as a celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and community spirit, signalling the dawn of a promising new era for Deuce Ball in Meghalaya.
