SHILLONG, Nov 6: Meghalaya Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Charles Pyngrope on Thursday dismissed rumours about party MLAs planning to switch sides, asserting that all legislators remain firmly with the party.
Reacting to reports suggesting possible desertions, Pyngrope said there is no discussion among any MLA about joining another party. “I don’t know what will happen later, but there is no talk of any TMC MLA joining another party at the moment,” he clarified.
On the recent move by former TMC leader Zenith M. Sangma to return to the Congress, Pyngrope said it was not surprising given his past association with the party.
“It was perhaps inevitable since Zenith was a former Congressman. Maybe he wanted to rejoin the party — that was his personal call,” he remarked.
The TMC chief refused to indulge in speculation over others possibly following suit. “If it’s speculation, let’s leave it at that,” he said, maintaining that the party remains united and focused on its political agenda.
