SHILLONG, Nov 7: Noted Shillong-based poet Eldora Betsy Lyngdoh has brought pride to Meghalaya by securing the second position in the 27th edition of the International Literary Prize City of Arona 2025 in the category of Unpublished Poetry in the World.
The event, organised by the Circolo Culturale Aronese (Arona Cultural Circle), was held in Arona, Italy, on October 25.
Authors from 28 countries participated, presenting works that explored themes ranging from personal identity to the major transformations of contemporary times.
Lyngdoh, however, was unable to attend the ceremony in person.
Reacting to the recognition, she said, “My first feeling is one of gratitude to God for allowing me to take part in this event, especially because there was even a screening process before being selected. And most of all, reaching the second position truly makes me happy.”
Expressing how the achievement has given her renewed motivation, Lyngdoh said, “This experience has deeply inspired me—especially now, as I am working on publishing my poetry collection of 101 poems, which I have titled The Pulse.” It may be mentioned that for nearly three decades, the Circolo Culturale Aronese has championed literature and poetry as instruments of dialogue and cultural connection. This year’s competition once again affirmed its international reach and spirit.
The year 2025 also marked the launch of the first edition of the Francesco Medoni Prize, established by the organisation to encourage local historical research.
