SHILLONG, Nov 8: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the new office building of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) at Dakopgre, Tura, West Garo Hills, as he expressed hope that the establishment will significantly benefit the youths of the region by bringing recruitment examinations and interviews closer to home.
In his address, the chief minister said the new MPSC office would greatly ease the burden on candidates from Garo Hills, who earlier had to travel “10 to 15 hours overnight to Shillong” to appear for examinations.
“Many would arrive tired and go straight to the exam hall without rest. With this new facility, students can now give their exams and interviews right here in Tura,” he said.
He further noted that the long journey and lack of proper rest often affected candidates’ performance, posing a major challenge for aspirants from Tura and other parts of the state.
“This is one of the most important offices to be inaugurated, and the impact that this office will have on the youth and their future will be immense. It gives a great sense of satisfaction to inaugurate this office today,” the chief minister stated.
Conrad also announced that the first MPSC examination in Tura will be held on November 14, 2025, marking a new chapter in making public service recruitment more accessible to all.
He added that the government plans to extend similar facilities to Jaintia Hills in the near future to ensure equitable access across Meghalaya.
Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, who was also present on the occasion, described the inauguration as a landmark moment that “heralds a new chapter in the journey of transparent, accountable, and people-centric governance.”
Among those present at the programme were West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, Chairman of MPSC (Tura) Abraham T. Momin and officials from various government departments.
It may be mentioned that the establishment of the new MPSC office in Tura will enable the conduct of examinations, interviews and recruitment activities for candidates from the Garo Hills region, reducing the need to travel to Shillong and ensuring greater accessibility and convenience for aspirants.
