SHILLONG, Nov 8: The UDP has said there is “no harm” in Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s “One North East” initiative.
UDP general secretary Titosstarwell Chyne on Saturday said the party had received no official communication on the formation of the new regional platform.
Chyne recalled that similar regional alliances had existed in the past. “We had the North East Regional Forum under the chairmanship of Neiphiu Rio, the Nagaland Chief Minister, where all regional parties had come under one umbrella. I was also the joint secretary of that forum,” he said.
He added that even the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) had attempted to bring together regional forces, but several core issues remain unresolved.
He maintained that while the initiative might be well-intentioned, the UDP has yet to deliberate on it. “As a party, we have not discussed this,” he added.
