SHILLONG, Nov 10: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem on Monday said police will soon file a second charge sheet in connection with the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly killed by his wife and three accomplices during their honeymoon trip to Sohra on May 23.
Syiem informed that the second charge sheet will name five individuals, including the prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi, her lover Raj Kushwaha, and three hired hitmen — Akash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi.
“The second charge sheet is on its way. Once we receive the forensic reports from the CFSL, Hyderabad, we will be able to submit it,” the SP told reporters.
He said that while the timeline to submit the charge sheet is the first week of December, the police are hopeful of doing so by the third week of November.
When asked whether there is sufficient evidence against the other accused, Syiem said, “Let us first see the forensic report when it arrives. There is adequate ground against the accused, but we will clinch the matter once the forensic confirmation comes.”
Responding to speculation that the prime accused might easily secure bail, the SP asserted that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has built a watertight case and submitted a robust first charge sheet. “Bail decisions rest with the court, not with the police,” he added.
The first charge sheet was filed on September 5 before the Sohra Sub-Division Court.
A supplementary charge sheet will also be filed against three others — Lokendra Tomar, Balbir Ahirwar, and Silome James — for allegedly destroying evidence.
Raja’s body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge at Riat Arliang near Weisawdong, Umblai, bringing to light one of Meghalaya’s most shocking and gruesome murder cases.
