NONGPOH, Nov 12: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, BL Verma, on Wednesday lauded Meghalaya’s steady progress under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma while reviewing the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in the Aspirational District of Ri-Bhoi.
Addressing media persons after a review meeting held under the Aspirational District Programme, Verma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been deeply concerned about the development of the Northeast and has personally visited the region multiple times to assess and boost its growth initiatives.
He expressed satisfaction with the state government’s efforts and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to work in close coordination with Meghalaya to transform it into a developed and self-reliant state.
It may be mentioned that the review meeting was attended by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal and senior officials from various government departments.
During his visit on Tuesday, Verma inspected several project sites, including the One Stop Centre in Nongpoh, Mawtnum Fair Price Shop, Umdihar Food Processing Unit, and the Umroi Health and Wellness Centre to assess the ground-level impact of central schemes.
The Union MoS also emphasised the importance of transparency, efficiency and accountability in the execution of development programmes to ensure that the benefits effectively reach the intended sections of society.
