SHILLONG, Nov 13: Police on Wednesday recovered the body of a 49-year-old man from Nohwet village under Pynursla Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Tapan Dey, a resident of Kamrup Metro, Assam.
According to police, the body was discovered by a group of women who had gone to collect firewood in a forested area, where a pickup truck allegedly driven by the deceased was parked. All his belongings were found inside the vehicle.
The body was found hanging on a sloped area with a synthetic rope tied to a tree and the other end around the neck of the deceased. Police said a mobile forensic team examined the spot, and the body was later shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Preliminary findings revealed no external injuries. Police said the deceased had travelled to Nohwet on November 8 to deliver a generator to a mobile tower construction company and was last seen on the morning of November 9.
Police stated that the nature of death—whether suicide or homicide—will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.
Family members who were present during the post-mortem in Shillong claimed that they had last spoken to Dey on November 9 and suspect that he may have been robbed and murdered.
