AMPATI, Nov 15: Furthering the Centre’s commitment to providing quality education for tribal children, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually laid the foundation stone for the construction of an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Chopapara village under Zikzak C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills district.
During his visit to Gujarat on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, the prime minister virtually inaugurated 42 Eklavya Model Residential Schools worth Rs 1,900 crore and laid the foundation stone for 50 new EMRS worth over Rs 2,320 crore from Dediapada town in Narmada district of Gujarat, with Chopapara being one of them.
The virtual foundation stone laying ceremony was attended through video conferencing at the DRDA Conference Hall, Ampati, by Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, Zikzak BDO Torali K. Marak, Purakhasia BDO AK Marak, District School Education Officer AK Sheikh, the EMRS Meghalaya team and other officials of the Education department, along with teachers, students and the contractor for EMRS Chopapara, among others.
Later, the DC informed the gathering that she would soon visit the site at Chopapara to inspect the land and monitor the progress of the EMRS project.
