JOWAI, Nov 19: A Crime Review Conference was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Jaintia Hills, on Tuesday, to assess the prevailing law and order situation, review crime trends, and strengthen coordination among departments and agencies.
The conference was chaired by DG Kharshiing, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, and was attended by a distinguished panel including the District and Sessions Judge, the Special Judge (POCSO), the Superintendent of Police, the District Medical and Health Officer, the Scientific Officer of the Mobile Clinic Forensic Crime Scene Unit, Directorate of Forensic Sciences, the Public Prosecutor and Special Public Prosecutor, and representatives from the District Social Welfare Office and the District Prison and Correctional Home.
A total of 70 participants, primarily police personnel involved in criminal investigation and prosecution, took part in the conference.
The event featured detailed discussions on law enforcement challenges, inter-agency cooperation, and updates on legal procedures, with particular focus on Supreme Court guidelines such as those laid out in case of Arnesh Kumar Vs State of Bihar. The sessions highlighted the importance of proper arrest protocols, protection of individual rights, and coordinated investigation strategies.
During the interactive session and Q&A, participants exchanged practical insights and proposed collaborative solutions.
