SHILLONG, Nov 19: A delegation of the KHADC Executive Members met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Wednesday, to discuss issues related to the implementation of schemes funded through the 15th Finance Commission under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
The team included EM (Development) Powell Sohkhlet, EM (Finance) Seiborlang Warbah, Nominated MDC Matthew Makdoh, and officials of the KHADC.
They raised concerns over the need to operationalise projects sanctioned by the Finance Ministry and the necessity of releasing the remaining funds.
Sohkhlet, speaking after the meeting, said the discussion was “fruitful” and informed that the Union Minister had instructed officers to identify ways to release the pending amount under the 15th Finance Commission. He added that the Council also requested a special financial package to support various public-oriented developmental activities.
On the previous day, the delegation also met the Joint Secretary and officials of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the department responsible for executing the 15th Finance Commission projects.
