Min tells farmers to avail benefits of PM-Kisan programme

SHILLONG, Nov 19: Agriculture Minister Timothy D Shira on Wednesday urged farmers to fully utilise the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Scheme, as Meghalaya joined the nationwide virtual release of the 21st instalment of the programme.
Addressing a state-level gathering at the Integrated Agricultural Training Centre in Upper Shillong, Shira explained the various requirements of the scheme and encouraged farmers to take advantage of the support extended by the central government to improve farming conditions in the state.
The programme brought together farmers from multiple C&RD Blocks of East Khasi Hills district, along with officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. It was organised jointly by the Agriculture department, Krishi Vigyan Kendra East Khasi Hills and the Meghalaya Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (MAMETI).
Senior officials present included BM Umlong, Director of Agriculture, A Suting, Deputy Director of Agriculture (State Soil Survey Officer), and TM Marak, Director of MAMETI.
As part of the event, attendees joined the live-stream of the national programme held in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, which also marked the launch of the South India Natural Farming Summit.
The virtual release saw participation from a large number of farmers nationwide as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the instalment aimed at advancing the goal of a self-reliant and sufficient India.
