SHILLONG, Nov 19: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem on Wednesday expressed concern over the manner in which some youths in the state are riding and driving their vehicles. Syiem said he recently saw a young boy speeding on a two-wheeler along the Mawlai Bypass without wearing a helmet.
Urging people to follow traffic rules and take necessary safety precautions to protect themselves and others on the road, the MLA informed that Ri-Bhoi police will conduct an awareness programme and a mock drill on road safety later this month.
Meanwhile, Syiem said the Nongpoh-Umden Road is likely to be commissioned by January-February next year, with progress standing at around 50-55 per cent.
