JOWAI, Nov 19: Truck owners of Jaintia Hills, led by Balen Thubru and others, convened a meeting on Wednesday to strongly oppose the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association’s (JHTOA) decision to allow only three days for the renewal of vehicle documents—a move that has caused inconvenience for many.
Thubru said that several truck owners were caught off guard by the renewal notice, as the decision was taken without prior consultation or the convening of a General Meeting. The truck owners have demanded that the renewal process be put on hold and the deadline extended by at least a month. They have also submitted written appeals to the JHTOA and the district authorities.
They unanimously resolved to call for a General Meeting sometime in December. Thubru warned that if the JHTOA fails to do so, they will be compelled to take alternative measures to oppose the decision, which he said was made by only a few members of the association.
Meanwhile, Pynshngaiñ Papang said that the three-day renewal window is unreasonable and impractical. He reiterated that the truck owners strongly oppose the move and suggested that the window be extended to at least 30 days. He added that any major decision must be taken only through a General Meeting.
