SHILLONG, Nov 20: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, on Thursday inaugurated the locality beautification project at Umpling.
The project was constructed using funds sanctioned under the Locality Beautification Enhancement Project, which aims to rejuvenate and beautify towns and localities in Meghalaya, enhance tourism experiences in urban areas, and empower community institutions while instilling a sense of civic pride.
The project was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 10 lakh under Phase 3 of the competition.
The Deputy Commissioner lauded the efforts of the Headman and locality members for undertaking an innovative initiative that not only stands out but also blends modern art with cultural ethos. The Headman of Umpling, SF Pyngrope, expressed gratitude to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for extending financial support to the locality from time to time.
Those present at the event included Additional Deputy Commissioners PT Passah and Shaborlang Warjri, along with locality members.
