NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, Nov 20: The US has approved the sale of Excalibur guided artillery projectiles, Javelin anti-tank missile systems, and related equipment to India for nearly USD 93 million.
The proposed deal includes Excalibur projectiles valued at USD 47.1 million and Javelin systems worth USD 45.7 million.
India has requested 216 M982A1 Excalibur tactical projectiles, 100 FGM-148 Javelin rounds, one Javelin missile (fly-to-buy), and 25 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units.
The sale also covers non-MDE items, such as Portable Electronic Fire Control Systems (PEFCS) with Improved Platform Integration Kits, primers, propellant charges, technical data, manuals, refurbishment services, and other logistics support.
The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency stated that the sale will enhance India’s precision strike capability, improve first-strike accuracy, strengthen homeland defense, and deter regional threats.
The agency emphasized that the sale would not alter the basic military balance in South Asia and that India can absorb these systems effectively into its armed forces.
Principal contractors are RTX Corporation for Excalibur and the RTX/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture for the Javelin system.
The sale reflects the strategic partnership between the US and India, supporting political stability, peace, and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
The deal marks India’s first major US defense purchase since increased tariffs on Indian imports in 2024.
Technical assistance, training, and program support are included to ensure operational readiness. (PTI)
