Johannesburg, Nov 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the opening day of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, unveiled six key initiatives designed to strengthen global health infrastructure, expand technology access, and boost capacity building across the Global South. He stressed the need for renewed international cooperation, climate resilience, and a balanced, human-centric approach to development.
PM Modi urged the grouping to adopt new development parameters that balance economic progress with planetary well-being. He noted that the summit sessions focused specifically on building resilience against disasters, accelerating just energy transitions, and strengthening global food systems.
Reiterating that major global challenges require coordinated solutions, the Prime Minister cited this conviction as the driver for establishing the Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group during India’s G20 Presidency. He argued that disaster management must transition from a purely response-centric approach to a development-centric model. (IANS)
