Shillong, Nov 24: The Shillong Cricket Association (SCA) has officially announced that the 2025–26 season of the 3rd and 2nd Division Leagues will get underway on December 1, 2025, setting the stage for another packed domestic cricket calendar.
A total of 45 teams will contest the 3rd Division League, divided into 15 groups of three through a transparent raffle draw conducted by SCA officials. The format remains straightforward: the two finalists will secure promotion to the 2nd Division, while a major change this season will see the bottom 16 teams demoted to the newly introduced 4th Division. At the captains’ briefing, the SCA made it clear that discipline will be non-negotiable. Officials referenced last season’s controversy, when a team was suspended after fielding only five players for a scheduled match. This year, stern action will be taken against any side failing to comply with participation and punctuality norms. The association also stressed the importance of maintaining uniformity on the field, reminding teams that players must wear jerseys of the same colour as per tournament regulations.
In a bid to modernise operations and reduce logistical hassles, the SCA will roll out a UPI-based payment system for match fees, allowing teams a faster and more convenient mode of transaction. With new rules, strict oversight, and a deep pool of competing clubs, the 2025–26 season promises to be one of the most competitive editions yet.
