SHILLONG, Nov 25: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Vivek Syiem on Tuesday informed that an investigation is under way into the death of 36-year-old Indarisha Jyrwa of Malki, who reportedly fell off a moving vehicle near the DC’s office around midnight on November 7.
When contacted, Syiem informed that the incident occurred at around 11.50 pm, shortly after the victim had attended a wedding at All Saint’s. Indarisha succumbed to her injuries on November 13 at Woodland Hospital.
Following an FIR lodged by the victim’s brother on November 10, police arrested her boyfriend, who had picked her up from the wedding that night. He was later released on bail.
Syiem stated that eyewitnesses present at the scene had seen the victim falling out of the car.
The medical report indicated that the cause of death was trauma resulting from a spinal injury.
The SP further informed that they are now working to determine whether the fall was accidental, caused by rash driving, or if there was any premeditated attempt to push her off the vehicle.
Informing that CCTV footage is being examined from all angles, Syiem added that the boyfriend’s statement is under verification to establish the sequence of events leading to her death.
