SHILLONG, Nov 24: Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Sampath Kumar, has lauded the Seng Kynthei Unitarian Union North Eastern India (SKUUNEI) for taking the lead in addressing issues crucial to the welfare of society, particularly violence against women and children.
Speaking at an awareness programme on the ‘Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children’ held in Shillong on Tuesday, Kumar said such initiatives play a vital role in inspiring and strengthening communities.
Emphasising the need for collective responsibility, he stated, “We must come together and find purpose in every aspect of life, and this campaign is truly unique. Violence is not an act of courage.”
The Principal Secretary stressed that meaningful change requires sustained awareness and proper counselling, adding that educating communities is essential for long-term transformation.
Kumar urged the organisation to continue its efforts, saying sustained initiatives like these could set an example for the world.
“Whatever we do will inspire the world. This initiative will go a long way,” he said.
He also assured that the government would extend full support to the Union in all initiatives aimed at social welfare and upliftment.
Kumar further highlighted the importance of educating mothers and children on nutrition and healthy food practices as a key part of societal development.
President of the Unitarian Union North Eastern India Marki Passah also addressed the gathering, which was attended by Union leaders, senior members, and community participants.
