WASHINGTON, Nov 27: Two West Virginia National Guard members were shot near the White House in a targeted attack and hospitalized in critical condition.
The lone gunman was subdued by troops, and a suspect in custody sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the shooting, President Trump ordered 500 additional Guard members to Washington.
The incident intensifies debates over the National Guard’s presence in the capital, which has been controversial amid crime-control and federal deployment disputes. (AP)
