SHILLONG, Nov 28: In an effort to improve public service delivery in rural areas, Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Minister Sosthenes Sohtun on Friday convened a consultative meeting with project directors and block development officers from all 56 C&RD Blocks of Meghalaya. The meeting was held at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.
Speaking to media persons after the review meeting, the C&RD minister said the objective was to ensure better coordination and strengthen the implementation of various schemes reaching the grassroots. He emphasised that the government is committed to providing efficient services to people in rural regions through well-functioning block offices.
Sohtun informed that most C&RD Blocks have already been provided with new office buildings, whilst 10 blocks are still awaiting upgraded infrastructure. For these remaining blocks, the department will soon issue tenders for construction.
“The department wants to make sure that our officers have the proper infrastructure so that they can offer better services to the public. Many blocks already have new buildings, and for the remaining ten, the tendering process will be initiated shortly,” the minister said.
The consultative meeting was attended by senior officials, including all project directors and block development officers, who discussed issues related to scheme implementation, administrative challenges and ways to improve service delivery in rural Meghalaya.
