Siju (SGH), Nov 29: The Garo Students’ Union – Siju unit has written to the PWD – South Garo Hills seeking the repair of damaged sections of the PMGSY road between Siju Bazaar and Dobakkol.

“The road from Siju Bajar to Dobakol has developed damaged portions at various stretches. Although the entire road is not in bad condition, several parts have deteriorated and become difficult for vehicles and commuters to use,” informed general secretary, Welbing Sangma.

The road is important for the local residents and serves as a major route leading to well-known tourist destinations, including the Siju Cave and nearby eco-tourism sites. The poor surface condition at certain stretches has affected both local transportation and tourism activities, they said

“As per the PMGSY guidelines, the executing contractor is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the road for five (5) years after completion, under the Defect-Liability Maintenance Period. Hence, it is requested that the concerned contractor be directed to carry out necessary repair works on the damaged portions at the earliest, in compliance with the maintenance clause,” felt the GSU.
