At 279, AQI in Delhi improves to ‘poor’
New Delhi, Nov 30: After 24 days of ‘very poor’ air, often bordering the ‘severe’ zone, the air quality in Delhi on Sunday improved to the ‘poor’ category with a reading of 279. The capital city last recorded Air Quality Index (AQI) in the ‘poor’ category on November 5 at 202, after which the readings turned ‘very poor’, according to Central Pollution Control Board data. At 4 pm on Sunday, the 24-hour average AQI was recorded at 279, compared to 305 on Saturday. It stood at 369 on Friday, 377 on Thursday, 327 on Wednesday, 352 on Tuesday, and 382 on Monday. (PTI)
In search of food, minor wedding crasher shot dead
New Delhi, Nov 30: A 17-year-old slum dweller who gatecrashed a wedding ceremony in search of food was allegedly shot dead by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable in Delhi’s Shahdara, an official said on Sunday. According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday evening during a wedding procession (baraat) near the community centre at DDA market in Mansarovar Park. The police received information about the shooting from a passerby and reached the spot, an officer said. The accused was identified as a CISF head constable, posted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, he said. “We got to know that the victim came to eat food after he witnessed a function was going on. He jumped a wall and was initially stopped by some locals. The CISF head constable was also there, and in a fit of rage, he pulled out a gun and shot him dead,” a police officer said. (PTI)
Flyer accused of misbehaving with flight attendant held
Hyderabad, Nov 30: A software employee was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a female flight attendant on board an Air India flight from Dubai to Hyderabad, police said here on Sunday. According to a complaint lodged by the cabin crew, the passenger, a native of Kerala, while travelling on Friday, touched the woman while she was providing services. The cabin crew further noticed that the passenger, in his 30s, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol/intoxicated. (PTI)
Police arrest one, search for others for molesting woman inside car
Kolkata, Nov 30: One person was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman inside a car on the EM Bypass here, police said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Altaf Alam (24) of Garden Reach, was arrested by Pragati Maidan police on Saturday, a police officer said. According to police, the alleged incident occurred on Friday night at around 9 pm, when a 28-year-old woman was waiting at a bus stop near the Pragati Maidan police station. “The survivor is a married woman. She was waiting at a bus stop when a car with three occupants stopped near her. One of the men was known to her for about three months,” the officer said. The woman, in her complaint, alleged that she was forcibly pushed into the car, forced to consume drugs, and molested, he said, adding that the survivor was dropped in the Maidan area. (PTI)
