SHILLONG, Dec 1: The Meghalaya Congress on Monday said the Northeast regional front “One North East” is nothing but a BJP-RSS plan.
It was launched last month in New Delhi by some Northeast political leaders, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Tipra Motha Party founder leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma.
Meghalaya Congress president Vincent Pala said the front had been designed as the BJP was aware that the indigenous tribals of the Northeast do not like the party. “They have made another basket so that all those, who are anti-BJP, land in it and don’t go to Congress,” Pala said, claiming that he learnt about the plan from none other than BJP-RSS leaders.
“The front is already talking about supporting the BJP. After the election, they will go and work with the BJP,” he said, adding that the founders of the front are former leaders and friends of the BJP.
Advising people of the Northeast to be wary of the “sinister” design, Pala said they must be smart and realise that the front is just another basket of the BJP.
Apart from Sangma and Debbarma, two other leaders of the front are former Nagaland minister and BJP national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon and People’s Party of Assam founder Daniel Langthasa.
The front aims to highlight the issues of the indigenous people of the Northeast.
