SHILLONG, Dec 3: VPP MLA from Mawlai, Brightstarwell Marbaniang on Wednesday inspected the proposed road that will connect Pata Rim (Block 11) with Block III of Mawlai Nongkwar. He was accompanied by AEE PWD Central Division H. Pakyntein, JE A. Pala, and Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Nongkwar, Moonstar Rumnong.
Speaking to reporters during the inspection, Marbaniang said the alignment for the new road has already been marked, adding that the link is crucial for improving accessibility between the two blocks, particularly during health emergencies. He stressed that the project will benefit not only the residents of the two blocks but the entire Mawlai Nongkwar locality.
The MLA noted that several road projects in the Mawlai constituency remain pending, including a major one at Mawlai Nongpdeng. He said that both the Mawlai Nongpdeng road project and the Nongkwar link road have been inspected and found to be essential. The PWD has agreed to club the two projects under a fresh proposal. Work has already begun on the combined road package, which includes a 146-metre stretch and a bridge. The total sanctioned amount for the Mawlai Nongpdeng road project and the Mawlai Nongkwar link road is Rs 4.61 crore, of which Rs 29 lakh has been earmarked for the road connecting Pata Rim and Block III.
