MENDIPATHAR, Dec 3: Mendipathar College, which has recently been in the news over allegations of misappropriation and the appointment of an under-qualified lecturer, is once again in the spotlight after the Meghalaya Lokayukta ordered a police probe against the principal and vice principal over multiple matters.
The order follows a complaint filed by Charansing Marak against principal Mothis M Sangma and SK Chaudhary in the Court of the Meghalaya Lokayukta.
The complaint accused the two of allowing the spending of over Rs 39 lakh during a period when there was no governing body in place, as well as operating the college account singly instead of through a joint operation.
Charansing also questioned the validity of the principal’s appointment, which took place in the absence of a governing body for the college.
In its directive, the Lokayukta instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to depute a police officer posted in North Garo Hills District, not below the rank of Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, to conduct the preliminary inquiry.
“The Investigating Officer (I/O) shall conduct preliminary inquiry and on the basis of material, information and documents collected, seek the comments on the allegations made in the complaint from the Respondents and competent authorities and submit the inquiry report on Feb 2, 2026,” stated the order.
The order further directed the complainant to serve a copy of the complaint petition to all respondents within one month from December 2, the date the order was issued.
