Condolence
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Meghalaya has condoled the passing of Bhola Nath Mishra, great-grandson of Pandit Shiv Narayan Mishra — the first custodian of daily worship at the Mahadev Khola Dham nearly a century ago. Mishra, born on April 2, 1978, in Shillong, passed away on December 3, 2025, at NEIGRIHMS. In a condolence message, the VHP expressed deep sympathies to the bereaved family and recalled Mishra’s decades of service, his spiritual contributions, and his dedication to community welfare. They said his teachings, compassion, and commitment to social and spiritual upliftment would be remembered by all, adding that his legacy will continue to inspire the community.
Office-bearers
The Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya State Branch, in its Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, elected the new managing body members for the term 2025-2028. The newly elected managing body comprises Pa’iem Laborious Manik S Syiem (chairman), Lt Col. Dr Shailesh Kumar (vice chairman), Amelia Swer (vice chairman) and Pradip Chokhani (treasurer), besides nine executive members.
Exhibition
A special three-day exhibition titled ‘Em No Nahi’ will be held from December 10 to 12 at the Noel Conference Hall, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, celebrating the life, work, and enduring legacy of renowned activist and image maker Tarun Bhartiya. A key highlight of the exhibition will be the release of Bhartiya’s first photobook Em No Nahi, published by Yaarbal Books.
Jail sentence
One Batista Paslein has been sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Special POCSO Court, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat, for committing an offence against a minor. According to a press release, the case was reported in an FIR lodged at the Khliehriat Women Police Station in 2020. The investigation, led by WPSI O Tyngkan, resulted in a charge sheet filed on April 14, 2024, under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act. Following the trial, Special Judge B Khriam convicted Paslein under Section 4(1) of the POCSO Act and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 in addition to the prison term.
