USTM’s AI-based fish detecting tech finds big audience

SHILLONG, Dec 4: Students and faculty of University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) showcased their innovative AI-based fish detection system using an underwater drone, leaving a lasting mark at the Regional AI Impact Conference 2025 held in Shillong on Wednesday.
The students and faculty of the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Engineering and Technology at USTM demonstrated their strong capabilities in AI applications for environmental monitoring, aquatic biodiversity assessment, and sustainable development.
Speaking at the event as a distinguished guest, USTM Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma said, “Our objective is to strengthen research, drive capacity building, and forge strong industry-academia partnerships to ensure that the youth of the North East lead the next wave of AI innovation.”
