Charges against Hasina’s son condemned
Dhaka, Dec 5: Bangladesh’s Awami League party on Friday condemned the arrest warrant issued by the country’s “so-called” International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed, saying the people of the nation have already labelled the tribunal a “kangaroo court.” The remarks came after the ICT on Thursday reportedly issued an arrest warrant against Sajeeb Wazed, former Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, taking cognisance of the formal charges brought against him in a case linked to alleged crimes against humanity during last year’s July-August demonstrations that followed an internet shutdown. Roman Gofman appointed next Mossad chief
Major General Roman Gofman was on Thursday appointed as the new head of the Mossad by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who selected him after interviewing several candidates for the crucial intelligence post. According to media reports, Netanyahu chose Maj. Gen. Gofman to lead the Mossad’s intelligence and special operations, entrusting him with one of Israel’s most sensitive and strategically important roles. Gofman, who currently serves as the military secretary to the Israeli Prime Minister, will succeed Mossad Director David Barnea, whose term concludes in June 2026. (Agencies)
Africa grapples with growing cybercrime crisis
New Delhi, Dec 5: Africa is facing a fast-growing cybercrime crisis, with Nigeria emerging as one of the main centres of these illegal activities, a report has said. Major raids carried out in Nigeria in late 2024 and early 2025 revealed the scale of organised digital fraud across the continent. Nearly 1,000 people were arrested in Lagos and Abuja, including 177 Chinese nationals. Investigators found that many of the facilities operated like professional companies, equipped with rows of computers, thousands of SIM cards and training rooms where recruits were coached in phishing, online scams and cryptocurrency fraud.
