Death of pregnant woman in Jowai MCH

From Our Correspondent

JOWAI, Dec 6: The Jaintia National Council (JNC), western zone, led by its president Hamehi Bamon, visited the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) on Saturday to follow up on the tragic death of Pynche Bareh.
It may be recalled that on June 5, Bareh and her unborn child passed away at the Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) in Jowai, allegedly due to inadequate services provided by the staff and doctors on duty.
On the same day in June, the union had called on the DMHO and submitted a letter, requesting an investigation into what they described as substandard services by hospital employees. They demanded strict punishment for those whose actions, nay negligence, led to the loss of two lives. They had further urged the government to ensure justice and take full responsibility for the children left behind.
In the follow-up meeting, the DMHO informed the delegation that after seeking an initial report, the office had written again to the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) last month, urging them to expedite the matter so that assistance could reach the family at the earliest.
The DMHO also assured the organisation that by December 15, they would respond with concrete actions and initiate engagement with higher authorities.
The union further insisted that the findings of the inquiry conducted by the government over the past few months must be made public through the media.
Bamon warned that if no action is taken as promised by the DMHO by December 15, the organisation will resort to strong measures.
