Delhi air quality remains ‘very poor’, likely to turn severe in coming days
NEW DELHI, Dec 8: Delhi’s air quality remained locked in the ‘very poor’ category on Monday, with the air quality index (AQI) staying above 300, while forecasts suggest that pollution levels are likely to deteriorate further and slip into the ‘very poor to severe’ range in the coming days.The 24-hour average AQI stood at 314 at 4 pm, according to the CPCB, compared to 308 at the same time on Sunday.In the morning hours, the AQI remained in the ‘very poor’ category at 318, compared to Sunday’s reading of 308, marking a slight dip within the same category.According to the Decision Support System for Delhi’s air quality management, transport within the city contributed 17.7 per cent to local pollution, followed by Delhi and peripheral industries at 8.5 per cent, waste burning at 1.6 per cent, construction at 2.4 per cent and residential sources at 4.3 per cent. Rape accused tries to snatch cop’s pistol, injured
AHMEDABAD, Dec 8: A rape accused suffered a leg injury after a bullet was accidentally fired from a police inspector’s service pistol when the former tried to snatch the firearm. The incident took place in Danilimda here at around 12:30pm when Moinuddin Bakarwal, a history sheeter with 16 serious cases against his name, was being taken for crime reconstruction. In a bid to escape, he first a cop with a piece of glass and then tried to snatch ther inspector’s pistol. During the scuffle, a bullet was accidentally fired from the pistol, injuring Bakarwal on his right leg, police said. Bakarwal, with a severely distorted mindset, has a history of self-harm and assault. (PTI)
Teacher suspended for attending school in inebriated condition
NANDED, Dec 8: A Zilla Parishad school teacher in Nanded was suspended on Monday for dancing inside a classroom in an inebriated condition.A video of Anant Ramcharan Varma, attached to the ZP primary school, had gone viral on December 5, following which a inquiry was instituted by the education department.“A report submitted by the Block Education Officer confirmed Varma was drunk. He has been suspended for breach of discipline and violation of Maharashtra Zilla Parishad District Services (Conduct) Rules 1967,” the official said. (PTI)
Snowfall in Rohtang, Manali-Leh road closed
SHIMLA, Dec 8: Cold wave sweeps through tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh, as Rohtang Pass near Manali in Kullu district and other higher areas received snow on Monday.The Manali-Leh road has been officially closed for vehicular traffic beyond Darcha due to bad conditions, officials said. The road that connects the state and Ladakh is shut every winter.The Manali-Leh road will now be officially reopened in May-June next year.Fresh snow at Rohtang Pass near Manali brought smiles to the faces of the locals, even though it led to slippery roads and restricted vehicular traffic to Marhi.
