SHILLONG, Dec 8: The Sri Sathya Sai Prema Pravahini Rath, which has travelled across the Northeastern states carrying the message of universal love, unity and selfless service, was recently accorded a grand welcome in Meghalaya.
This sacred yatra, aimed at uniting people under the ideals of the ‘Brotherhood of Man and the Fatherhood of God’, is part of the ongoing centenary celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and has been inspiring harmony through devotional music and spiritual uplift across the region.
The journey commenced when the Rath entered the Northeast via Assam on September 30, marking the start of a significant two-month pilgrimage. Before arriving in Meghalaya, the chariot visited Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur, offering darshan and spiritual solace to countless devotees.
On 25 November, the Rath travelled along the scenic Mawkasiang route to Shillong Lok Bhavan. Upon its arrival, Governor CH Vijayshankar offered a floral tribute to the divine Rath and warmly greeted the devotees and members of the Sai fraternity present.
The Governor also assured his full support for the three wings of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation—Seva, Spiritual and Education.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, the district president of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations (SSSSO) Meghalaya highlighted the significance of the Prema Pravahini Yatra and expressed gratitude to the district administration for their extensive support in facilitating the smooth movement of the Rath.
The chariot was received with traditional Vedic chanting at Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Garikhana, where it was stationed for two days.
The event saw devotees from all communities and faiths offering prayers and participating in devotional bhajans and cultural programmes. A massive Narayana Seva was organised as part of the activities, providing food to more than 5,000 people.
It may be mentioned that the significance of this visit is rooted in history, as the first-ever Sai Samithi in the Northeast was established in Shillong in 1969.
“Over the decades, more Samithis blossomed across the Northeast under the guidance of the parent Samithi in Shillong. Today, the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, Assam-Meghalaya-Arunachal Pradesh, serves across 17 districts, with 33 Samithis and 12 Bhajan Mandalis, steadfastly carrying forward Bhagawan’s eternal message of love, unity, and selfless service,” a statement here said.
