Agencies warn of rising LeT-JeM activity next door
DHAKA, Dec 11: Indian intelligence agencies have uncovered what they believe to be a major ISI-backed terror mobilisation centered in Bangladesh, raising alarms about a potentially significant strike being prepared against India.
According to officials, a group of operatives from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has been instructed by the organisation’s top leadership to enter Bangladesh.
This team reportedly includes experts in explosives, sent to train Bangladesh-based counterparts — a development that intelligence sources view as a serious escalation.
The alert comes as agencies detect efforts by both Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and LeT to revive dormant modules across West Bengal and India’s northeastern states.
Officials say the coordinated movement of seasoned operatives into Bangladesh suggests that the plan could involve serial, high-impact attacks. Border areas have been placed on heightened vigilance due to concerns of infiltration attempts.
Intelligence inputs indicate that the ISI is actively working through networks inside Bangladesh, leveraging what officials describe as a “friendly regime” to widen its operational space.
LeT and JeM leaders, reportedly meeting in Pakistan under ISI supervision, are said to have agreed on a joint command structure for upcoming actions.
A nine-member LeT-JeM team has already been deployed to train local operatives, while multiple visits by group envoys — including a close aide of Hafiz Saeed — have been noted.
Agencies believe Saeed himself may travel to Dhaka, with the timing potentially linked to the operational green signal.
Adding to the concern, several ISI-linked madrasas in Bangladesh—previously involved in radicalisation—have been abruptly closed, which officials interpret as an attempt to wipe traceable links before any strike.
Analysts familiar with ISI strategy say the pattern reflects a classic diversion tactic: conducting preparations on foreign soil so that responsibility appears to rest elsewhere, giving Pakistan plausible deniability.
