SHILLONG, Dec 11: Amid growing whispers of dissatisfaction following the recent Cabinet reshuffle, United Democratic Party (UDP) chief and Cabinet Minister Metbah Lyngdoh on Thursday attempted to steady the party’s public posture, asserting that the organisation remained confident about its direction.
When asked about reports that several leaders were unhappy and rumours that working president Paul Lyngdoh might even “jump ship,” Metbah Lyngdoh said he had nothing to comment on “what people are talking outside.”
He stated that any leader with grievances or strong feelings should raise them openly within the party platform, adding that it would be inappropriate for him to comment on matters concerning other political parties without knowing the full details.
He highlighted that the UDP was moving ahead positively as a regional party, pointing out that the party had far fewer seats in 2018, doubled its numbers in 2023, and expected to double them again in 2028.
On the upcoming GHADC elections, he said party leaders in Garo Hills had been tasked with assessing the situation on the ground.
