SHILLONG, Dec 13: A total of 653 cases, including 246 pre-litigation cases and 407 pending cases, were taken up during the National Lok Adalat held across Meghalaya, of which 186 cases were settled involving a total amount of Rs 1.66 crore.
The National Lok Adalat was organised on Saturday by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority at the High Court of Meghalaya and in all districts of Meghalaya under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The programme was held under the patronage of Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Patron-in-Chief of the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, and under the supervision of Justice HS Thangkhiew, Executive Chairman, and Justice W. Diengdoh, Chairperson of the High Court Legal Services Committee.
Chief Justice Soumen Sen attended the Lok Adalat at Tura in West Garo Hills district and interacted with lawyers and litigants.
On the other hand, Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W. Diengdoh attended the Lok Adalat proceedings at the High Court of Meghalaya, the District Court in East Khasi Hills, Shillong, and the District Council Court of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.
