Shillong, Dec 15: The Inter-School Rural Volleyball Championship 2025, organised by the District Sports Officer, East Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Volleyball Association (MSVA), concluded on Thursday at the playground of Pomlum Higher Secondary School, Baniun Upper Shillong.
Held from December 9 to 12, the championship brought together school teams from across the district with the objective of promoting volleyball at the grassroots level in rural areas of the region.
In the men’s category, Gorkha Higher Secondary School emerged champions after a strong showing throughout the tournament, while St. Gabriel’s Higher Secondary School finished as runners-up.
Gorkha Higher Secondary School also claimed the women’s title, with the host institution, Pomlum Higher Secondary School, settling for second place.
Individual honours were also presented at the closing ceremony. Zanniel Kurbah of Spring Time School, Sadew, was adjudged the Best Promising Player in the men’s category, while Nung Nàn Nuan of Gorkha Higher Secondary School, Upper Shillong, received the Best Promising Player award in the women’s category.
In the team awards, Pomlum Higher Secondary School, Baniun Upper Shillong, was named the Best Promising Team in the men’s section, while Spring Time School, Sadew, Upper Shillong, earned the corresponding honour in the women’s category.
The championship witnessed competitive matches over four days and served as a platform for young players to showcase their talent while encouraging the growth of volleyball in the district.
