SHILLONG, Dec 15: BJP leader AL Hek promised a thorough investigation into all alleged corruption and manipulation within the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), should the party form the new Executive Committee after the elections scheduled for early next year.
Hek’s statement follows recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) search operations at five locations in Tura, West Garo Hills, linked to alleged financial irregularities in the Council.
The ED probe focuses on the alleged non-execution of development works and the misappropriation of Rs 28.66 crore allocated for the GHADC’s Asanang constituency. Officials stated that committee members, in collusion with certain contractors, diverted and misused the funds in violation of established rules and procedures.
Meanwhile, Hek confirmed that the BJP will contest all 29 seats in the GHADC elections and has already started groundwork for the polls. The former minister expressed confidence that the party would secure a strong result this time, despite the BJP’s limited electoral success history in Meghalaya.
