NEW DELHI, Dec 16: Congress MP Saleng A. Sangma on Tuesday urged the Centre to establish two medical colleges and two more nursing colleges along with technical institutions relating to health in Meghalaya to meet the serious shortage of health staff being faced by the people of the hill state.
Raising the matter under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, Sangma said there is a serious shortage of specialist doctors, nurses and other technical staff in the state.
In response, the Union Health Ministry said it will send a factual reply to the MP and the Lok Sabha Secretariat within a month.
Meghalaya is facing a serious and long-standing shortage of health staff, especially specialist doctors and nurses, in its public healthcare facilities. This issue is particularly acute in rural areas and district hospitals, leading to significant challenges in providing adequate healthcare to the population.
