Shillong, Dec 17: Meghalaya have set Mizoram 248 to win in their U-19 men’s Cooch Behar Trophy 2025-26 plate group match at the end of the second day in Anand, Gujarat, on Wednesday.
Resuming their first innings in the morning on 129/5, in response to Meghalaya’s 219 all out, Mizoram were dismissed for 177, a deficit of 42. Meghalaya then made 205 in their second innings.
Not out overnight on 32, Mizoram’s top scorer Malsawmmuanzela added just 1 run before falling to Angkit Tamang (2/14). Eric provided some resistance with an unbeaten 22 but Meghalaya were able to knock off the other batters and claim a first innings lead.
Namewanki Pakyntein was not utilised today but still finished with the best figures (3/25) after doing the damage yesterday. Meghalaya’s other wicket takers were Mewankitbok Kharpuri (2/43), Gaurav Jyoti Thakuria (1/0), Sameer Choudhury (1/12) and Gaurav Narleng (1/27).
Meghalaya began their second innings strongly, if cautiously, with Mannan Surana (27), Sameer (24) and Dipayan Nandi (57) taking the team to 116 for the loss of two wickets. However, partnerships were hard to come by after that and Meghalaya were reduced to 148/7 when Rudra Singh Rathor (27) and Heiyoomiki Ryngkhlem (35 not out) added 40 for the eighth wicket.
Heiyoomiki’s knock included four fours and Meghalaya’s only six and his presence at the end helped get the team over 200.
Meghalaya’s second innings ended right at the end of the day’s play and there was no opportunity to have a go at Mizoram again. Instead, Meghalaya’s bowlers will come at their opponents fresh in the morning tomorrow as they seek victory in the must-win match.
