Shillong, Dec 17: Day three of the MTA-AITA Championship Series (CS7) Under-16 Boys and Girls Tournament delivered high-intensity tennis as the boys’ semi-finals unfolded, setting the stage for an exciting finale.
In the U-16 boys’ singles, Rosangkima Hlondo of Mizoram showcased grit and composure to edge past Assam’s Arnav Bhuyan in a hard-fought three-set encounter. Hlondo clinched a tense opening-set tie-break before Bhuyan fought back strongly in the second. However, Hlondo regrouped in the decider to seal a 7-6 (6), 3-6, 6-2 victory and book his place in the final.
The second singles semi-final saw Chandogya Phatak of Assam produce a commanding performance against Meghalaya’s Sookhi Dorjee. Phatak controlled proceedings from the outset, using consistency and sharp placement to register a straight-sets win, 6-2, 6-2.
Doubles action in the U-16 boys’ category was equally emphatic. The Assam pairing of Chandogya Phatak and Enrich Patar stormed into the final with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Pratham Majumder and Manveek Das. In the other semi-final, Arnav Bhuyan teamed up with Ayyan Rehman to defeat Jyotishman Kashyap and Udiit Praghan convincingly, 6-0, 6-2.
The tournament now heads into its decisive day, with the finals scheduled to begin from 10:00 am on Thursday. The prize distribution ceremony will follow at 2:30 pm, bringing the Championship Series to a close after a week of competitive junior tennis.
