Guwahati, Dec. 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Assam from Saturday during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around Rs 15,600 crore.

Upon landing in Guwahati, the Prime Minister will undertake a walkthrough and inaugurate the new integrated terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here and subsequently address the gathering on the occasion.

Notably, the newly completed terminal building, spread over nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, is designed to handle up to 1.3 crore passengers annually, supported by major upgrades to the runway, airfield systems, aprons and taxiways.

The facility is the first nature-themed airport terminal, with the airport’s design drawing inspiration from Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage under the theme “bamboo orchids”.

Thereafter, the Prime Minister will take part in a roadshow near the Assam BJP headquarters and meet senior party leaders and workers at the party office here, before spending the night at the State Guest House in Koinadhora.

On Sunday morning, the Prime Minister will pay tribute to martyrs at the recently-inaugurated Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon here.

Additionally, he will spend time on the banks of the Brahmaputra, experiencing the serene beauty of Assam’s lifeline, and interact with 25 students under the “Pariksha Pe Charcha” initiative.

Thereafter, the Prime Minister will travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh district, where he will perform bhoomi pujan for the ammonia-urea project of Assam Valley Fertiliser and Chemical Company Ltd. The project, involving an investment of over Rs 10,000 crore, is aimed at strengthening domestic fertiliser production and reducing import dependence.

In addition to the foundation-laying ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will also address a large public gathering at the venue.

In a statement issued here, the Assam BJP recalled that Prime Minister Modi has visited Northeast 75 times in the past 11 years, including more than 35 visits to Assam alone, making him the only Prime Minister of India to have visited Assam and the Northeast so frequently.

“Each visit has carried with it a fresh message of growth and progress. This visit is poised to become a milestone in Assam’s socio-economic and infrastructural development,” the statement said.
