SHILLONG, Dec 19: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday issued a warning to the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), asserting that his government will not tolerate the illegal activities of the proscribed outfit following their claim of responsibility for an IED explosion at the Dhar Company premises in Shymplong, under Elaka Narpuh in East Jaintia Hills on December 15.
The HNLC claimed the attack targeted Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar’s property due to an alleged refusal to meet extortion demands.
A statement issued by HNLC justified the blast on these grounds. However, police have refuted parts of the claim, stating that while the explosion damaged a water tanker, there were no casualties—contrary to some reports circulated by the outfit.
Sangma emphasised that the police have gathered sufficient evidence and built a strong case. “The police have been very swift, and those behind it will definitely be picked up,” he said.
Police confirmed that two overground workers of the HNLC were arrested on December 18 for their involvement in the IED blast.
