GUWAHATI, Dec. 26: Police have arrested four persons in connection with vandalism of decorative items and property inside the campus of St Mary’s English School in lower Assam’s Nalbari district on Christmas Eve.
According to official sources, a case (number 116/2025) was registered at Belsor police station under Sections 329(3), 326(f), 189(2), 351(2), 324(3), 324(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, based on a written complaint by the principal of the school on Wednesday.
According to the complaint, some unknown miscreants unlawfully entered the premises of St. Mary’s English School on Wednesday afternoon and vandalised the campus, causing damage to the Christmas decorations, lights, plant pots and other articles. The articles were also set on fire, resulting in loss of property.
The arrested miscreants have been identified as Bhaskar Deka (34), who is the Nalbari district secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP); Manash Jyoti Patgiri (32), district vice-president, VHP; Biju Dutta (34) assistant secretary, VHP, and Nayan Talukdar (37) district convenor of Bajrang Dal.
All the arrested accused belong to Nalbari district.
“In connection with the vandalism at St Mary’s English School, Panigaon, under Belsor Police Station, Nalbari district, the miscreants involved have been arrested. Assam Police acted promptly, and further action will be taken strictly as per law,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Friday.
“We are fully committed to maintaining peace, communal harmony and ensuring the safety of all institutions and citizens across the state,” the chief minister said.
