3 hospital staff suspended for declaring living patient dead

Kanpur (UP), Dec 28: Three staff members of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur, including a junior resident doctor and a nurse, were suspended after a living patient was erroneously declared dead on paper, prompting initiation of post-mortem formalities, an official said. The mistake came to light on Saturday evening when police personnel arrived at the Medicine Ward to shift the body to the mortuary, only to find the patient alive, Sanjay Kala, principal of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College under which the hospital is run, said. According to the principal, two destitute patients were admitted on adjacent beds in Medicine Ward Number 12 – Vinod (42) on bed number 42, and an unidentified elderly man aged around 60 years on bed number 43. The elderly patient died during treatment on Saturday. However, the junior doctor allegedly filled out Vinod’s medical file, officially declared him dead. (PTI)

JUP chief’s son detained for assaulting policeman

Kolkata, Dec 28: Janata Unnayan Party (JUP) chief Humayun Kabir’s son Golam Nabi Azad was on Sunday detained for allegedly attacking a policeman posted at their residence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, an officer said. Trinamool Congress said Azad, better known as Sohel, committed a cognisable offence by raising a hand on the policeman, who was posted as a personal security officer of Bharatpur MLA Kabir, and police took action as per the law, while claiming that the ruling party has nothing to do with it. A senior police officer said Sohel was detained on the basis of a complaint lodged with Shaktipur police station by Constable Jumma Khan, alleging that the legislator’s son assaulted him this morning when he applied for a few days’ leave. Bullying dispute turns fatal as man stabbed to death in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 28: A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by a juvenile in an apparent act of revenge for bullying, an official said on Sunday. The incident was reported around 3.16 pm on Thursday, when a caller informed police that a man was stabbed in the Jwalapuri area of Paschim Vihar West, the officer said. Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and identified the victim as Karan, he said. “The accused claimed that Karan used to bully him, which led to the violent confrontation,” the officer added. “Karan was found with multiple stab wounds on the torso at DDA Park in Paschim Vihar. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” the officer said. (PTI)
