Shillong, Dec 29: Meghalaya’s martial artists enjoyed a successful month on the national and international circuit, winning medals and championship trophies across disciplines and highlighting the state’s growing strength in combat sports.
Making its national debut, the newly formed Meghalaya Thang Ta Association sent a nine-member team to the 31st National Thang Ta Junior Championship in Guwahati, where Samjana Phawa of East Jaintia Hills clinched a bronze medal.
The association has announced that the first Meghalaya Thang Ta Championship will be held in Shillong in January 2026.
At the 8th National Zendokai Karate Championship 2025, Meghalaya athletes under the MSKDF dominated the event, bagging 23 gold, eight silver and four bronze medals to lift the overall Team Champion Trophy ahead of Manipur and Delhi.
The state’s success continued at the 1st IASGF Federation Championship 2025 in Delhi, where the Meghalaya Martial Arts Team under the MJKA topped the table with 24 gold and four silver medals to secure the championship title.
