SHILLONG, Dec 30: A short but vital bypass road near the Anjalee junction is nearing completion and is poised to ease chronic traffic congestion in one of Shillong’s most notorious bottlenecks once opened to the public.
The bypass, spanning just a few hundred metres, starts near Rhino Point, runs behind the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) office, and skirts the congested Anjalee junction before reconnecting just ahead of the main intersection.
Site workers report that the bulk of the construction — including black-topping — is already finished, with only side wall construction ongoing.
They added that the remaining work should wrap up within the next 15 days, paving the way for the road to open.
Once operational, the bypass is expected to bring significant relief to daily commuters by alleviating bottlenecks at Anjalee junction, a longstanding pain point in the city’s traffic woes.
This small infrastructure project aligns with ongoing efforts to address Shillong’s persistent traffic challenges in the area.
