Guwahati, Jan. 5: The Opposition Congress in Assam has intensified the process of preparing a ‘people-centric’ manifesto for the forthcoming state Assembly elections has intensified across the state through a campaign titled, ‘Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress’.

As a part of the campaign, Assam PCC president Gaurav Gogoi on Monday met representatives of various political parties and organisations in Upper Assam’s Charaideo district. He also held organisational interactions with party leaders and workers thereafter.

Meanwhile, Dhubri MP and senior party leader Rakibul Hussain collected public feedback for the manifesto in Bongaigaon district. MLA Abdul Batin Khandakar and senior Congress leader Ashok Sharma, were present along with him. A separate team led by former APCC president Bhupen Bora will visit Baksa district on Tuesday.

Addressing a media conference on the issue, chairman of the election manifesto committee and MP, Pradyut Bordoloi stated that the Congress manifesto would be prepared on the basis of opinions gathered from the people of every district in Assam.

Bordoloi said that Congress teams are visiting districts under the ‘Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress’ yatra to directly engage with citizens and collect their views.

He said that the campaign has received an unprecedented response from people. “We do not want to prepare a manifesto by sitting at Rajiv Bhavan and making hollow promises. That is why we have gone to the people. We are not going to deliver speeches before them; we are going to listen to what is in their minds,” he said.

“Our manifesto will not be one imposed from Delhi. We cannot even think of preparing a manifesto by sitting in Delhi or in drawing rooms. To ensure that what Assam truly wants is reflected in the manifesto, we have gone from door to door to collect public opinion. Based on those views, we are committed to preparing a manifesto of the people and for the people,” Bordoloi added.

He informed that the concluding phase of the campaign, which began in several phases from December 6, will be held in Guwahati on January 10 and 11. During the course of the campaign, interactions have been held with representatives of more than 1,000 organisations across Assam.

Similarly, in Nagaon district, a team led by former MP Ripun Bora participated in the ‘Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress’ campaign and collected public feedback for the manifesto. The team interacted with representatives of various organisations.
